Nasi Kandar @ Restoran Nasi Kandar Pelita, Puchong
Today’s lunch was irresistible… at least for one of the gang members.
This lunchkaki member has been pestering us to head to one of the famous nasi kandar chains in Malaysia, i.e. Restoran Nasi Kandar Pelita. Yes, this restaurant has expanded right up to India as indicated by their website.
Previously before joining the lunchkaki gang, I had the privilege of enjoying a lunch at Pelita (as it was fondly called) as it was a stone’s throw from my office in the middle of KL. So, for me, I was not really excited about Pelita as I had sampled quite a number of their signature dishes.
We reached the restaurant early and so, was spared from waiting in a long queue to pick the various dishes offered. There was a huge variety of meat, fish and seafood dishes to pick from on top of the various vegetables side-dishes as well.
Nasi kandar is different from Indian banana leaf rice in the manner of how the spices are used. Nasi kandar is part of the Indian Muslim cuisine and so, tends to have more chilli and dried spices used compared to the typical Indian cuisine.
Anyway, each of us had different side-dishes.
Someone had seafood only, i.e. sotong and prawn (RM12.60).
Another had mutton curry with egg.
And finally, I had the typical fried chicken with the nasi kandar (RM7.10).
You can have a choice between the regular “nasi putih” (white rice) or bryiani rice to go with your side dishes. The bryiani rice is rice cooked with tumeric, with other ingredients such as cashew nuts and raisins.
Be warned.. This food is spicy. Be prepared to sweat a great deal if you’re not used to the hot spices!
